Lucy Zodion provides isolator solutions for Llanwern redevelopment
Background
As part of redevelopment work at the Llanwern Steel Works, a new link road connecting a newly built housing estate was created. Lucy Zodion was appointed by BAM Nuttall to supply products for the street lighting infrastructure for this link road. After working together for more than nine years, BAM Nuttall was confident in Lucy Zodion’s ability to be able to resolve the technical challenges involved in this project.
Solution
M4 Magor to Castleton Corridor Enhancement Measures
Lucy Zodion worked closely with the contractors to develop a bespoke solution to meet the full specification of this complex scheme.
The scheme required the use of a 3-phase cable system utilising both 16mm2 and 25mm2 5-core SWA cable. Each cable looped in and out of the column, terminating within the Trojan Midi2 fused Isolator. The Lucy Zodion team designed the isolators to cope with the large 5 core cable to resolve the issue of limited space in each column for the isolator but still allowing for the aligning of the cable.
As part of the project Lucy Zodion, working alongside the contractor, was also able to provide a CAD design and build service for the prewired feeder pillars, based on the industry Fortress range of feeder pillars.
John Fox, Managing Director at Lucy Zodion comments:
This was a complex and difficult project for our teams but we were able to provide a seamless service for our client. The cut-outs, isolators and pre-wired pillars that we supplied were created specifically for this project meaning that they would meet the requirements of the client first time round. It may take a little more time in the first instance to create a bespoke solution but in the long term it saves both time and money
Peter Hindley, General Manager at BAM Nuttall Limited went on to say:
This project was inundated with technical challenges that meant the selection of our supply chain partners was essential to delivery of the project on time. We found that the Lucy Zodion team worked with our site staff to deliver both quotation and equipment within our program limitations and the quality of the product was observed to support the ease of certification during the commissioning stages
